On April 24, 2012, Dolby Laboratories announced Dolby® Atmos™, a new cinema sound format that unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by giving filmmakers the ability to place and move sound anywhere in the movie theater—not just where there happen to be speakers.

Dolby Atmos also draws moviegoers into the onscreen action like never before, making them feel as if they, too, are in the scene. The infographic above tells the story of a great opening year for this new technology, with nearly 40 Dolby Atmos films released or announced.
